Hanford Plant Now Solar-Powered
PHOENIX, July 30, 2024 – In one year alone, the 4,600 solar panels at Tessenderlo Kerley’s Hanford, California production facility produced a majority of the plant’s energy consumption and distributed 1.7 million kilowatt-hours to California’s power grid. This has resulted in substantial energy benefits for the community and the state.
“The solar-powered energy supply is vital to the operation of our plant and to California,” said Hanford Plant Manager Robert Hibbs. “Since the installation last year, we have experienced minimal power outages from blackouts, allowing us to consistently produce essential fertilizers for our customers.”
“Sustainability is a fundamental aspect of Tessenderlo Kerley’s core values, and this endeavor exemplifies our commitment to delivering solutions that benefit not only our customers but also the communities we serve,” said Tessenderlo Kerley Executive Vice President Russell Sides.
The Hanford facility, one of 12 Tessenderlo Kerley manufacturing plants in the U.S., has been operational since 2013. It produces and stores crop nutrition and protection products that are primarily made by repurposing refinery sulfur byproducts. Serving California's largest agricultural region, the facility supplies top crop nutrition liquid fertilizers KTS® and K-Row 23®, acts as a terminal for Thio-Sul®, and provides crop protection product Sectagon-K54®.
